XML is an extensible (hence the X) markup specification. It permits extensions, provided that they conform to the XML spec. That means you can create a set of tags and rules for a specific purpose: like XHTML. |

HTML is also a set of rules, but it is hardly nothing. It all depends on how you apply the rules. |

You can think of XML as a set of rules for creating sets of rules. Its a meta-standard. |

Isn't this a picture of Bill Gates?
Do you realize you could easily be labeled as a "troll" with this kind of "avatar" in a Gentoo forum? |

XML is a set of rules for use in creating documents which can be easily read by an XML parser...
XML is a set of rules for use in creating new document formats.
A DTD is a set of rules. XML should be used in conjunction with DTD so that your XML documents conform to your own rules... That is, if you specified that a <para> can only appear inside a <section> but you forgot to do so, the XML parser will not notice anything wrong, but a XML parser with a DTD specification will.
By the way, HTML means nothing too. It is fortunate that people have decided to render it in one uniform way, rather than argue over whether <p> should cause one blank line before and after or not... |

I see you haven't been fully integrated into hacker society yet, despite the post count.
