Alright, I have dual boot right now with WinXP and gentoo and I need to keep it that way for a while. Here is my question. I have two partitions for windows right now. One of them is where I store all or my MP3 files and documents and such. I have this drive mounted as read-only in gentoo, as for the fact that NTFS writing from gentoo is dangerous. What about fat32? Would this be a better format? Am I able to write to it from both linux and windows? I don't much about this, how safe is it, etc.

Tim

Hi, linedpaper;

I avoid using NTFS. Use fat32 (you can write & read from wherever you want, resize partitions without problems...)

FAT32 is a simple filesystem design... It is the absolute last incarnation of a FAT based design.

NTFS is better for Windows-specific use, FAT32 for cross platform. (Almost every user-friendly-ish OS supports it, that is the power of de facto...)
