Hi,
When i want to update my gentoo system recently installed i have this message:
$ emerge -uDN world
or
$ emerge -av packagename
I have this message:
Code: | >>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
...
>>> No packages selected for removal by clean
>>> Auto-cleaning packages...
>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.
* Regenerating GNU info directory index...
* Processed 127 info files; 1 errors
install-info: No such file or directory for /usr/share/info/bashref.info.gz |
Do you understand the origin of the problem ?
(1 error..)
Thank you and have a good day.

see if Code: | emerge --sync && emerge portage bash-completion | will solve this, I'm not sure what is going on there.
Can you post emerge --info if you still have that problem after. _________________ - Failure is not an option. It's bundled with your software. |

I just had this error as well after a world update. From dcoats suggestion I did an emerge bash-completion (a package I'd never heard of before) and the error went away. |

I looked around on google and found that bashref.info is just some long-winded text that blah-blah-blahs about insignificant caveats related to bash.
You can find a version that's probably similar to what your machine had at: http://src.opensolaris.org/source/xref/sfw/usr/src/cmd/bash/bash-3.0/doc/bashref.info
The error appears to be caused by a dangling reference from /usr/share/info/bashref.info.gz to a nonexistent bash.info.gz
Doing an emerge bash and emerge bash-completion did nothing to remedy the solution. Apparently this file was phased out when I did an
emerge -uDNv world because it was banal. I simply deleted the symlink and voila. No more error. |

This error was confusing me too.
Solution is to
unlink /usr/share/info/bashref.info.gz
It seems this file was replaced in favor of bashref.info.bz2 however the symlink was never removed. |

Thanks...
Removing the symlink does, indeed , work. _________________ "Primum non nocere" ---Galen |

Ah... I've had that problem as well for a while... Thanks for everyone's suggestions!
Dunno about bashref.info being "just some long-winded text that blah-blah-blahs about insignificant caveats related to bash", though. To me, it looks pretty much like a good (although verbose) reference to bash, just like the name suggests. |
