|
|
I spent a couple of hours of trying and this is what finally made my cheap, about to be discarded HP PSC 1315 work for me. It now scans, prints and copies.
First:
run hp-probe
make sure that your device is detected
ensure that your kernel has USB support
connect it ( power and usb ) and turn it on.
close the cartridge access door.
DO NOT USE hpijs if you want the scanner to work . hpijs works well with the printer part, but has no scanner support. And leaving hpijs on the system makes hplip not work with the scanner.
Delete hpijs:
emerge hplip
restart hplip
Code: | /etc/init.d/hplip restart |
restart cupsd
Code: | /etc/init.d/cupsd restart |
go to cupd control panel
Code: | http://localhost:631/admin |
configure your printer
Click Add printer
Name: (May contain any printable characters except "/", "#", and space)
Location: (Human-readable location such as "Lab 1")
Description: (type some rubbish)
Choose the HP usb option ( if it is a usb scanner, of course)
The wierd App/socket options are for network printers.
Choose an appropriate driver.
If it is a PSC 1315, choose the 1310 driver
Code: | emerge sane-backend |
add user to the scanner group.
run xsane and make sure that it finds the scanner.
running it as root is not a good idea, but I have read that you may have to temporarily do this if your udev permissions are fouled up. Fix the permissions asap and go to running it as a user.
( much nicer than xsane)
do Code: | sane-find-scanner -q | and make sure that your scanner is found
now do
if scanimage -L has no device, make sure that you deleted hpijs and emerged hplip, as described above.
DO NOT USE hpijs if you want the scanner to work
I hope it works for you.

Oh and make sure that the scanner is on while running xsane or kooka.
This avoids a lot of puzzling error messages. _________________ The soul, when accustomed to superfluous things, acquires a strong habit of desiring things. This desire is without limit, while things which are necessary are few in number. |

I have got this error:
Code: | localhost geko # scanimage -L
scanimage: hp-option.c:3713: hp_optset_fix_geometry_options: Assertion `tl_x && tl_y && br_x && br_y' failed.
Aborted |

Was getting similar errors, until I power cycled the device. |
