Hi everybody!

I just saw that there is a new "Gentoo Package List - index" at www.gentoo.org.
It gives information and URLs about packages now.

You can choose 'Old Style List' and use CTRL-f to find what u are looking for.

you could always "emerge --clean rsync" and look in the /usr/portage directory. It's basically the same. If done through a file manager in KDE or Gnome, the only difference would be one is local and look like folders instead of links.
As far as searching it, "cd /usr/portage ; ls -alR > ebuild-list.txt"
then you can just grep the ebuild-list.txt file for what your looking for.

You are aware I wrote this thread, right? :D I just think it would be a good idea to have a search function on the website.

On a related note, it may be really useful to have package "manifests" listed at the website (possibly based on builds on gentoo test boxes?). If you know the name of the executable for instance, it will be really useful to know which package will provide it.
