Hi all.

Just installed Gentoo for the very first time - and what a rush :D

Unfortunately I seem to be unable to run KDE3 as it keeps freezing on me. When it does I can only move the mouse cursor. Mouse buttons stop working, keyboard stop working. I can't even kill the X-server og ctrl-alt-del the machine.

Does anyone else have any experiences with this? How can I find out what's wrong?

When I run fluxbox my machine runs like a charm, but I would really like to be able to use KDE.

Regards
- Jacob

Are you getting any error messages in your log files? (/var/log/* -- specifically XFree86 and kdm)

Also, if you have access to another computer, you can generally ssh into your frozen box and kill the x session that way.

I can't find anything in /var/log/*. I've tried 'grep -i xfree *' without luck. And /var/log/messages is not telling anything.

I'm not using kdm - starting X from cli.

Samples from X output:

kdesud: WARNING: kdesud is already running
Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy
khtml (jscript): WARNING: Script throwed exception: TypeError: Null value
mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding

A lot of those and some others too... is that really normal?
