Processor upgrade benchmark results

Before replacing my 2x360MHZ processors in my ultra 60 with 2 450mhz i conducted the following test.

I rebooted the system and from the prompt I ran 'emerge nano' and then 'time emerge nano' taking the results from the second one.
After replacing the CPU modules I ran the very same two emerges and recorded the results of the later. Here they are....

360MHZ - 1.56.450 seconds
450MHZ - 1.37.210 seconds

For such a small program to compile I am happy with the results.... In KDE the system was notibly faster.

Now if i could just upgrade that creator3d video card id be in business.

I keep half deciding to buy a new Sparc machine - but I just cant justify a workstation that costs that much - when x86 blows them out of the water for less money. Its not fair as I love my old Ultra 10 but it's been stuffed under the bench and disconnected in favour of my laptop.

I miss using the Ultra - I dont think it was the speed so much as the feeling that it was bomb proof and very stable (provided I wasnt screwing around with the system all the time that is )

Even the home servers have moved to x86 now for better disk IO performance - ahh well I'll be back when I can afford an Ultra 45
