Actually, I am emerging mplayer, have -debug, and this is what I get

Code:
!!! ERROR: media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc1-r2 failed.
Call stack:
  ebuild.sh, line 1614:   Called dyn_compile
  ebuild.sh, line 971:   Called qa_call 'src_compile'
  environment, line 3284:   Called src_compile
  mplayer-1.0_rc1-r2.ebuild, line 454:   Called die

!!! Failed to build MPlayer!
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
!!! A complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc1-r2/temp/build.log'.

And this es the emerge -tpv output
Code:
[ebuild  N    ] media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc1-r2  USE="3dfx alsa dvd gif iconv ipv6 jpeg opengl png samba sse sse2 svga unicode -3dnow -3dnowext -X -aac -aalib (-altivec) -amr -arts -bidi -bindist -bl -cdparanoia -cpudetection -custom-cflags -debug -dga -directfb -doc -dts -dv -dvb -dvdread -enca -encode -esd -fbcon -ggi -gtk -jack -joystick -libcaca -lirc -live -livecd -lzo -mad -matrox -mmx -mmxext -musepack -nas -openal -oss -real -rtc -sdl -speex -tga -theora -truetype -v4l -v4l2 -vorbis -win32codecs -x264 -xanim -xinerama -xv -xvid -xvmc" LINGUAS="es -bg -cs -da -de -el -en -fr -hu -ja -ko -mk -nl -no -pl -pt_BR -ro -ru -sk -tr -uk -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB

whats peculiar about this is that all of the prior versions in the portage are hard-masked due to a security flaw...

I switched to xine for the time being, it does the job just as fine

What's peculiar about that?

FWIW, we're working on an mplayer svn snapshot ebuild, should be a lot better.

And as far as compile not working, check your CPU optimization flags (mmx, sse, etc.) and play around with those.

Please don't post different problems in the same thread.

@coogy: Please follow up to topic 511940 if necessary.
@imanassypov: Please follow up to topic 490208 following beandog's advice if necessary.
@Evincar: We need the real error if it's not one of the other two issues. In that case, please start a new thread.
