I was just curious on how many people donate money to their favorite open source projects. How do you contribute?
I haven't in the past but I plan to start soon. |

What about the option "I'm contributing source code or docs instead of money"? That's what a lot of Gentoo users do by making ebuilds. |

Thats how I would contribute. I don't think i'd buy any merchandise or contribute hard cash.
Developers do what they do because they want to, I shouldn't have to give them anything. _________________ a.k.a port001

I use quite a bit of OSS software for both professional and personal use and because I lack the time ( and in some cases, knowledge ) to contribute via code, I give my tax return every year. It varies but usually come out around $300. I spread it around to various causes, some not even software-related ( in the program sense anyway ), such as http://eff.org. _________________ My foot and your ass sure do make a great team. |

I donate a little to the FSF, which I suppose counts. GNU isn't really Open Source, but it's in that vein. _________________ Anyone who attributes a quote to themself is a pompous fool.

I'm broke so I contribute only by reporting bugs and helping others out if I can. _________________ warning: `class GroveImpl' only defines a private destructor and has no friends. |

I give when I can afford it - it's normally 50-100 $ a year but spread like wildfire - mostly like, this is a cool project, here's a 5-10 spot to show the author(s) that I liked his/her work. I also have an arrangement setup when I ship distros around the world and instead of taking the few bucks for myself I ask people to donate to Gentoo the amount of money they owe me plus what ever they can spare.
I feel bad though, I should give more - especially to the EFF, I haven't even donated to them this year.
I also donate time and skills to various projects writting documentation, writting code, reporting and confirming bugreports that type of stuff. |

I was wondering if there was a charity that could collect small quantities of money from people and distribute it fairly to open source organisations as they see fit. That would make donation easier if you wanted to benifit the community as a whole but cant afford much. |
