Hello NG,
today I decided to have my own "Wow" for 0,00 and installed beryl. Since I don't play games and such my graphics card is a pretty old ati 9200 - probably not made for expensive graphics effects. To cut a long story short - performance is perfect for me, wobbly windows work as advertised, the desktop cube jumps as fast as you have seen any cube jump, and I was almost happy. Only scrolling in Firefox was sluggish and made my CPU (!) start to sweat. So I disabled "smooth scroll" in Firefox options, and "bing", that problem went away. Other programs don't have this problem, though. So, if Your programs seem to perform slower than before, try to disable "smooth" effects from within that software, and You'll be alright.
Greetings,

Are you using exa acceleration with this card?
It can really make a difference, especially with compositing. _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

I used to use exa, but unfortunately it crashes my X in conjunction with beryl. Exa definitely made a huge difference before, so if you happen to know how to use it with beryl on ati 9200 cards, I'd be glad to try.
