Moved to Desktop Environments forum: "XFree and everything that runs in it; from window managers to applications."

you'll have to edit /etc/mplayer.conf and uncomment the line saying gui=YES...

By default it starts up as if it were running in the command line environment.

Do "mplayer -gui" to bring up the gui.

Or something like:

Code:

mplayer -ao sdl -vo xv /path/to/movie.file

The better solution is, like Naan Yaar said before, to start
Code:

mplayer -gui

So mplayer uses your default GUI. If you have another GUI than gmplayer installed you can use this by changing the default-setting.
