Hi all, total n00b here trying to install Gentoo on a Sun Blade 2000.
I downloaded and burned the sparc install ISO, but somehown OpenBoot could not load the image.
Managed to do a successful netboot with the sparc64 image (gentoo-sparc64-2005.0-20050717.tftpboot) instead.
I have been following the SPARC installation handbook to do the install, but I have noticed that the netboot image doesn't seem to come with some of the programs used in the installation handbook:
- links or lynx (I used wget instead to grab the stage3 tarball)
- mirrorselect
- nano (I used cat>, not comfy with vi)
- useradd
Is this normal or is there something wrong with my netboot image?

Yeah, this is normal with the netboot image at the moment as it has to be very small as some machines have problems booting netboot images over 5MB in size.
The only comment I'd make is that I don't recall useradd being mentioned until you are inside of the chroot. The documentation may have changed since the last time I've read it though.
As for the ISO, you'd want the sparc64 ISO (as you mentioned you got the sparc ISO). |

Ok thanks for the info.
With regards to the useradd command, it's mentioned in the SPARC install handbook before you chroot the environment. However, it's only an optional task.
Can I suggest that the netboot guide have a short note to say that you will not get all the apps/programs in the install guide due to netboot image size limitations and that you need to rely on other programs?
Thanks. _________________ -Derek- |
