Can someone fill in the gap for me left in the X configuration guide? I'm a newbie and I just got a useable command prompt to show, and I'd like to finish doing X as soon as I get home, but the sound part for GNOME is "to be added in the next version" of the document. >_< Can someone be kind enough to write me a quick guide? Thanks ^_^ |

as long as you compiled your sound card driver in the kernel you should be having sound |

Hi. I had a problem with sound when I installed GNOME. I remember I had sound from other applications (e.g. XMMS), but the GNOME sound events didn't sound (even when I tried to test them from sound preferences).
I got it working by installing ALSA, rather than OSS, which was more of a workaround than a fix. So if you haven't already installed ALSA (and assuming your soundcard is supported) you might want to take a look at that.
Having said all that, sound not working for me might have just been a fluke (or possibly due to me compiling with "alsa" in my USE flags), so maybe it'll "just work" for you.
Hope this helps
