Hi, I'm having some trouble while doing emerge -Duav world. This is the message I get:

Code:

Calculating world dependencies -
!!! Multiple versions within a single package slot have been
!!! pulled into the dependency graph:

('ebuild', '/', 'net-im/gaim-2.0.0_beta5-r3', 'merge') pulled in by
  ('ebuild', '/', 'x11-plugins/guifications-2.13_beta5', 'nomerge')

('ebuild', '/', 'net-im/gaim-2.0.0_beta6', 'nomerge') pulled in by
  ('ebuild', '/', 'x11-plugins/gaim-encryption-3.0_beta7', 'nomerge')

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in the
dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can not be
installed simultaneously.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page
or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

!!! Depgraph creation failed.

I tried emerging separately the gaim packages and it all went allright with:

Code:

emerge gaim gaim-encryption guifications

They compiled correctly and I got no error messages but I tried the -Duav world and I got the same message again. Can anyone help me please???

First of all, it is not my or anyone's here duty to give you instant solution like 'do this that and that' IF there are dozens of similar posts on the forum and moreover the error while emerging world tells you itself how to solve it

second, error is not about gaim itself, but about dependecy graph, which is rather a portage issue, so you don't have to search especially for gaim error, just search for multiple packages in dependecy graph...

There is this old saying, it is better to learn you how to catch a fish, than give you one, so I hope you will learn how to 'catch a fish' and you will be able to solve such error by youself, just using your skills...

Basicly gentoo is not a distribution for people, that can't use their brains, either to search for solution for easy problems, or solve them by themselves...

So that ironic 'thanks' is very inappropriate...

True and agreed, but it does no harm to ask. Also, if you do find duplicate topics, please report them.

First, I didn't notice there is such thread to notice moderators about other suspicious  threads, thanks for pointing it out, already reported

Second, of course it does not harm to ask, but according to my believes if I give a tip that the solution is 'findable' on the forum, and not give direct solution, will couse the asking one to learn more how to deal with problems, that's why I don't like the ironic comment he gave to my advice

I was agreeing with you, the comment about there being no harm in asking was directed at luisavalos, as duplicate topics can always be relocated as this one has been.

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads.

Refer to topic "[SOLVED] abiword-2.4.6".
