:?: Where can i find cheap switches/dials/motors and project boxes for a small submarine im trying to build. (radioshack sells simple switches for 4 bucks apiece, and its a ripoff) so... where can i find this stuff for less?

Having ordered many parts for a physics lab, I can tell you that you're not going to do much better unless you buy in bulk. Keep in mind, at Radio Shack you're paying for the retail setup; then again, with mail order, you're paying for shipping -- you're screwed either way unless you can order in bulk.

Thinking some more, is there a hobby shop (R/C vehicles, model rockets, trains, etc.) near you? Maybe you could get stuff cheaper there.

Apart from that, try the following:

www.newark.com
www.digikey.com
www.mouser.com

I had to vote for Compaq. I used to have one(circa 1998 i think), and the most memorable thing about it was that they seem to put a lot of effort into making it damn near impossible to upgrade. Not to mention that bogus psuedo window manager called Tabworks that came installed on that thing. What the hell were they thinking with that? Hmm, let's dumb down windows to the point of oblivion.(Here you go for those of you unfamiliar with this gem. Be sure to click the arrow to see the inside!) I can only say I wish this was a joke.

I have had good results with mouser, and if I remember correctly they have no minimum order. I think some of the parts come in base quantities of 50 or something, but you can usually search and find a similar part that they sell in single units.
