|
|
Hi,
I am new to Gentoo, having moved over from Ubuntu and I am having a strange problem with the location of the kernel image.
This is a copy of a section from grub
--
title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.18-r6
# Partition where the kernel image (or operating system) is located
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.18-gentoo-r6 root=/dev/sdb3
title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.18-r6 (new)
# Partition where the kernel image (or operating system) is located
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/new-bzImage root=/dev/sdb3
--
Now if I select the first of those options it boots without any problem, if I select the secong (new) it says "Error 15 File not found"
When i log into gentoo and go to /boot it only contains "new-BzImage" but NOT "kernel-2.16.18-gentoo-r6"
So I am unsure exactly where it is, and why when I use
cp /arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage to /boot it doesn't find it.

Well, why not just use "make install" and let it rename the old kernel for you with the .old extension, and automatically update the vmlinuz symlink, which you can then use in grub. Then make a second entry using vmlinuz.old for the kernel so you can fallback on the last good kernel. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

Does it automatically rename the kernel to have the suffix .old. Given that the original is not called bzImage?

Mounting /boot before working there might prove a good idea too. |

Ok, that was funny. Good thing one of us noticed the obvious. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |
