I want to emerge bestcrypt and a newer version of evolution, among others. Is it safe to use ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"? Is there any other way to do it, if ACCEPT_KEYWORDS is a "do not use if you want a stable system" variable (emerge -uD world will then probably upgrade other packages aswell)?
Thanks |

I wouldn't emerge unstable packages if they are important for the rest of your system (python, glibc, gcc, ....) unless you are very patient and like writing bug reports (and rebooting).
But if it is only one piece of software (and nothing else depends on it) and you are not running it on a mission critical machine (i.e. you can afford to reboot it), then why not give it a try? If it crashes too much, you can still go back to the old one. Maybe you don't want to encrypt your filesystem with something unstable unless you can afford to lose it, though. |
