emerge -av openoffice-bin

Just use the binary version. Save you having to spend 2 days compiling.

You probably don't have enough memory to compile OpenOffice.

I tried compiling OpenOffice a couple months ago and also got a "65280" error, but on a different file. The error was caused by running out of memory during compile: the linux OOM killer killed the compile. I tried various things to get it to work, but ultimately I had to emerge openoffice-bin. Good luck.

I would use the "bin".

Compiling openoffice does not make any sense to me. :wink:

Try recompiling with O1. Openoffice.org is notoriously sensitive to CFLAGS.

With me exactly the same problem Has anybody been able to compile it properly?

Cheers

Perhaps compiling OO does not make sense, but, on my Centrino 2 :

Code:

tuxie ~ # genlop -i openoffice
 * app-office/openoffice

   Total builds: 5
   Global build time: 17 hours, 43 minutes and 12 seconds.
   Average merge time: 3 hours, 32 minutes and 38 seconds.

   Info about currently installed ebuild:

   * app-office/openoffice-2.0.4
   Install date: Fri Dec 22 01:21:09 2006
   USE="cairo cups dbus firefox gstreamer gtk kde pam -binfilter -branding -eds -gnome -ldap -sound -odk -webdav"
   CFLAGS="-O2 -march=prescott -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"

By the way, most (all?) ebuilds set their CFLAGS modifying the make.conf settings. If you look carefully, emerge --info settings shows -O3 (which is a waste in compile time with no real benifit) while the compilation logs show -O2 (set by the ebuild).

After this rant, i would try 1) cleaning ccache, 2) using a different JVM.

Just my .02

I've got it compiling!

I cleaned up all remains of an old and no longer existing java installation:
- rm jdk and jre directories in /opt
- remove JAVA-Variables in profile.csh, csh.env and profile.env by
Quote:
cd /etc
grep "JAVA" *
nano ... {remove the lines with "JAVA"} in the files

That was it for me. Still compiling after half an hour ;-)
Quote:
bach etc # genlop -c

* app-office/openoffice-2.1.0

current merge time: 30 minutes and 38 seconds.
ETA: 11 hours, 51 minutes and 15 seconds.

By the way, I prefer the compiled version because I can profit from the KDE dialogues then. That's why I prefer it to ooo-bin.

Cheers and (hopefully) happy compiling! And good night!

Markus

Emerging worked fine on my laptop (the computer I had had the problem).

The very odd thing is that on an old desktop, where I compiled it as well, it failed in the end. It seemed to have installed properly but I couldn't start the application. It said something like "no files found in .... [certain path]". So I re-emerged =app-office/openoffice-2.0.4 which works. I don't know what happened, though.

Sorry that it wasn't successful for you, eduedix.

I got the same error 65280 on building OOO 2.1.0. I have 2 GiB of RAM, of which only 700 MiB are in use, so I highly doubt it's a RAM issue (especially since 2.0.4 compiled with no problem). And, no, I don't want to use the -bin package. Clearing my ccache didn't help, and the only files in /etc with JAVA in them are autogenerated profile.env files that are supposed to. Anybody got a solution yet?

I ended up getting some help through bugzilla, and it turns out that you need to have portaudio-18* and ONLY portaudio-18* installed. If you have a version 19 installed (even if you have both installed in different slots), OOo won't compile. Yeah...
