when I try emerge iptables it starts to work then just stays at:
Making dependencies: Please wait...
I've looked through the forum and haven't been able to find an answer. I've tried emerging with 2.4.20 and 2.4.21 vanilla, gentoo-sources-r5 and development sources. /usr/src/linux also points to /usr/src/linux-2.4.20/. This is really frustrating becasue I need iptables. Could my kernel configuration have anything to do with it? I think I have most things iptables needs configured as modules. |

same here. I think you have to enable net-filter(Networking options->Network Packer filtering) in the kernel to make it work. |

Yea I had the same thought but after recompiling the kernel, iptables still refuses to go anywhere. I feel special you made your first post for me . |

Just re-emerge kernel source and build kernel from renewed source. After that there is no hangup for emerge iptables. |

I had the same problem, but it didn't actually hang, just took a very long time (I believe at the point where it says 'making dependencies').
Started yesterday evening and this morning it was done. |
