|
|
This is my second Gentoo desktop install.
I use Gentoo mainly for server purposes.
I have installed a new Gentoo on my desktop computer and I have noticed that the basic is system is using to much of my disk space. I want to reduce it with 1 GB.
In this stadium, I want to run Gentoo from a 6 GB partition. I know this isn't optimal, but I want to do it this way!
File system usage after a basic install (following 2006.0 manual) and compiling the kernel with genkernel, ati-drivers and gnome-light emerge:
Code: | Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda3 6.6G 3.2G 3.1G 51% / |
emerge --info: | Portage 2.1.1-r2 (default-linux/x86/2006.1/desktop, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r4, 2.6.18-gentoo-r5 i686)

perhaps https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-465367-highlight-howto.html
you can also share your /usr/portage with NFS or SSHFS. and make sure you have minimal USE flags.
portage cache and distfiles eats up quite a lot space too, you may want to check it. _________________ "Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent" - Marilyn vos Savant
