|
|
Some (most?) packages have post install messages that appear during an emerge just after installing the new package and before uninstalling the old one. If I missed a message because it when scrolling off the top and out of the scroll buffer before I had a change to read it, how can I show it again? Is there a tool that will just print it out for me for a particular package.
Thanks a lot

You can activate the elog facility of portage, which will allows you to log post-install messages in files, by mail... Quite powerful and really really useful!
Check the handbook section on it _________________ Routinely breaking NX, GNUstep, net-ftp, miscellaneous (llvm, filezilla, rdesktop, chromium, ...) packages |

I can also recommend elogviewer, elogv, and kelogviewer. For details see <https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-465493-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-elog-start-0.html>. These are in portage now althought you'll have to add keywords for them. I used elogviewer for some time on my desktop. I just found out about elogv, which will be great for servers without X.
Good luck!
