|
|
I have read many entries to find a solution. I am new to gentoo and I am STUCK
I did the livecd install on a sparc platform.. sunblade 100. using the sparc64 kernel config.
After I was completed, using the handbook, i rebooted and it says mounting / as readonly
then it gives me some ultra sparc error 211's
then it was giving me spawning errors for c1 thru c6 (commented those out of inittab and stopped them)
then it gives me starting run level 3
then runs out of processes at that run level
then it sees the usb kybd and mouse devices
and hangs... nothing else. I can not stopA or anything
any ideas?

You're probably trying to use 2006.1 stages with a 2.4 kernel or an older stage with a 2.6 kernel. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

I checked.... uname -r gives me 2.6.17-gentoo-r5 and the stage3 I used on the CD was stage3-sparc64-2006.1.tar.bz2.
That should be good, yes?
Thanks |

But which kernel did you emerge/configure/build?
2.6.17-gentoo-r5 sounds like the livecd kernel which may not be what you want to run afterwards.
You could also be lacking some kernel option.
And if you're using the livecd kernel don't forget to copy the modules (/lib/modules/*) directory too since many bits are modular. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

forgive my ignorance... I have done mostly admin stuff with Solaris, when it comes to linux, I am fairly new... and don't program and/or develop. This kernel stuff is new to me. Is there a list of things I can check to verify the information you are giving me? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Well, got it to work finally... more research in the forum. I had to make changes in the kernel and fstab to get it working... now on to X |
