gdk-pixbuf hard masked?

I just sync-ed and found that gdk-pixbuf is suddenly hard masked... I tried searching the forums to find out why, but couldn't find any discussion on it.

The exception is that there seems to be a gentoo-wiki page devoted to killing off GTK+-1 and gdk-pixbuf seems related to this. I looked further and... There is a humongous list of packages affected!

Does this mean that gdk-pixbuf is going to be removed from the portage tree soon?
