Hello,

A few days back I had to do something with a database dump from work, and I got some weird errors. Appearently I used a completely wrong command (I tried to use mysqlimport on a mysqldump file), but when I didn't know that yet, I updated mysql from 4.0.27 to 4.1.21. After a reboot, I found out that apache was complaining and mysql reported starting normally, but in fact did not live. So, I updated mysql to 5.0.26-r1, apache to 2.0.58-r2 (from 2.0.55-r1). Then... php wasn't working. Updated that too, got some vague error that I fixed with help to this forum, so now everything appears to work, except.... that my sql databases seem to be gone.

That is, in mediawiki I get the error "Error in fetchObject(): Can't find file: 'page' (errno: 2)" (and a backtrace), and when I log in into mysql, I can do a show tables in the wikidb, but when I do a "select * from page;" I get
Code:
mysql> select * from page;
ERROR 1017 (HY000): Can't find file: 'page' (errno: 2)

I allready tried repairing the tables using myisamchk, but to no avail. In the directory I see 2 .MYI files, and a lot of .frm files. I'd expect about 20 MYI files. The tables for those 2 MYI's do still exist, but don't hold my beloved text. What are frm files?

Any hints on getting my data back?
What should I know before updating MySQL next time?

(it's not a really big hurt except that my gf stored all her recipes in our local wiki, she has weeks of work in that and and I'd like to have some nice dinner :-))

Tijmen (sorry to be such a n00b)

No. How should I know that I need to follow a guide? When I do an emerge -vauD world, do I need to check every single package to see if an update guide exists?
