when doing "emerge -uDva world" i get a lot of "masked or not exist" messages. how to handle them? what shall i do?

Um, have you read the posts in that thread? If not, please do so. Some contain step by step instructions on what to do. In short, XMMS has been masked, pending removal from the portage tree. You will need to remove it and all of the packages your emerge was complaining about from your system, disable the xmms USE flag, then re-emerge any packages that had been using that flag. To find out which those are, you can use something like | Code: | | emerge --newuse --deep --pretend --verbose world |
after disabling the xmms USE flag.
