I tried setting up Gentoo 2006.1 on a T2000 (60-day trial system). The 2.6.17 kernel compiled ok but it won't boot. It just hangs with the following message:
Code: |
request_module: runaway loop modprobe binfmt-4c46
|
The 2.6.17 kernel that's on the Gentoo CD boots fine. Any ideas?
Thanks! |

You're probably lacking some configuration option in the kernel, probably 32-bit linux/sparc binary format support or so.
An easy way to get it quick is copying the livecd config to create your own.
I also have one handy @ http://dev.gentoo.org/~gustavoz/sparc/configs/config-2.6.17-gentoo-r3-t2000.
For a T2000 i would suggest you package.keywords >=gentoo-sources-2.6.18 since it plays nicer and it's what we're actually using with great success. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

You're right: I specifically removed 32-bit compatibility from the kernel config. The IA-64 version worked fine without it but I guess the Sparc needs it. Let me recompile it using your config and report back.
Thank you! |

Your config. worked like a charm. It's too bad that I have to send the machine back to Sun today.
Thanks for the help! |

What's your take on the T2000 guys? IMO it's not as fast as I thought it would be. |
