|
|
Hi there, well I have followed the install docs on the site and all looks good until after the kernel has been compiled.
When it comes to installing the kernel is where things go wrong.
# cp arch/sparc64/boot/image /boot/<kernel-version>
is the command that needs to be entered to copy the compiled kernel across, but when I do that I get not found, there is no arch/sparc64 directory, so I really dont have a clue what is happening here.
I have gone through the compile twice now with the same result. if anyone can assist with this it would be most appreciated.
Thanks

RichardLOZ,
There is an extra command needed to build the image file, which I missed on my first time away from IA32.
The sparc handbook says Code: | (For 2.6 kernel, sparc64)
# make && make image modules_install | Notice the extra
However, the /usr/src/linux/arch/sparc64/boot directory should be there without the make image. _________________ Regards,

Thanks for that......I am on my second attempt at the moment, so will start the compile and then head off to bed and finish it tomorrow. Had to rescue my HD before I could continue as it wasnt playing like it should have size wise.
Thanks

Well that didnt work, got the
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
Press L1-A to return to the boot prom
error so did some searching and am now about to compile the 2.6 kernel and see what happens this time.

RichardLOZ,
Thats further on though, so thats progress.
You may not interchange 2.4 and 2.6 kernels without swapping devfs and udev, or using a static /dev so you need neither.
There are a few other things too. Its all covered in the sparc handbook. _________________ Regards,
