Hello world,
could anyone please tell me how to use the supermount (http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~quintela/) patch with gentoo-sources ?
Propably with diff or something, even editing files by hand...

I know about jp's patchset but I don' t want use it since it has quite experimental/cvs stuff and it doesn't work with lirc.

If it isn't possible to use this patch w/ gentoo-sources could somebody at least tell me how to successfully configure autofs to auto-mount/unmount cdrom (/dev/cdrom, zip (/dev/sda4) & floppy (/dev/fd0).
I tried it once on a redhat system but had no success :(

You probably don't really want the supermount patch to the kernel, but rather to reconfigure your fstab file. You should really read the man page for fstab, but I think that you'll just need to remove the "noauto" option from the cdrom drive (to have it automatically mount) and then to add the "user" option to allow regular users to mount and unmount it.

auto and noauto just means that the device will or will not be mounted on boot. It has nothing to do with super mount. As far as patching the gentoo kernel, I have read else where on the forum that its not possable since the patch is hard to extract from the mandrake kernel. So far I have heard that the best solution is to use mandrake's kernel (shouldn't be to too hard to add the patches that gentoo has and it doesn't... i think ^_^). Hope this helped

Isn't there a program under Linux that automounts?

I faintly remember trying to stay the hell away from it badly before

Now that I need to know what it is for someone else, I don't remember...

On the supermount webpage they give the patch for vanilla 2.4.18, but if I apply it then I can' t apply gentoo-sources patch. I definitely don' t want to use mdk' s kernel - it's so patched(fscked)-up :)
