I've followed every post I could possibly find in these forums in order to try and fix this, but haven't had ANY luck. I just got a Tungsten C and tried to hook it up to my Dell latitude laptop. USBView shows the new device, but not what the /dev/? is. A new device shows up under /proc/bus/usb/001/ (as device 009), but nothing new that I can find is being created under /dev/usb. My USB mouse is working, and I can get my flash-card reader working (as a /dev/scsi), but no luck on this palm tungsten.
Any ideas oh wise-ones? |

One more thing...I'm running the gentoo-sources kernel (2.4.20-r5). I've heard of a patch that needs to be installed, but can't find it anywhere. Any ideas? |

HA! I'm gonna toot my own horn here...
This is the third time I've done this - posting a question, only the find the answer shortly thereafter. I apologize for being a newbie, but appreciate all of your patience.
The solution:
emerge vanilla-sources (for plain-old 2.4.21 kernel)
Copy /drivers/usb/serial/visor.h and /drivers/usb/serial/visor.c from the vanilla kernel directory into the same directories under the gentoo-sources kernel.
Recompile kernel!
And that was it!
Can I just say, I've learned a LOT about Linux since installing Gentoo. My sincere and extreme gratitude goes out to all of you on the Gentoo development team! |

You got lucky here. TungstenC supported in 2.4.21, but not 20. And 2.4.21 just came out today. So my advice would be to keep the gentoo-sources installed, and watch for updates, I'm sure 2.4.21 is comming soon to gentoo. |
