I recently emerge --sync 'd and then this happened... no idea what I did. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Something wrong with python I guess?

any attempt to emerge anything spits out that same output "performing global update... ...device or resource busy." Even after rebooting... : \ _________________ "Common sense is something earned by thinking." |

try emerging the snapshot from cd over the current portage.
it will overwrite . and then emerge --sync.
if you dont have cd download the latest snapshot and install it. _________________ reach out a little bit more to catch it (DON'T BELIEVE the advocate part under my user name) |
