|
|
Hello,
I'm trying to install 2006.1 Sparc64 on my Netra X1 and keep getting the following error:
----------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the Gentoo/Linux SPARC64 InstallCD 2006.1
----------------------------------------------------
boot: 2617
Allocated 8 Megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel
Loaded kernel version 2.6.17
Loading initial ramdisk (645031 bytes at 0x67802000 phys, 0x40C00000 virt)...
Illegal Instruction
ok
Has anyone been able to boot with the the 2006.1 cdrom? _________________ SeeEf

Do you have the latest OBP?
Did the machine previously boot Solaris without being powered off before trying the livecd? (i know this sounds like some obscure magic, but the single processor netra's have proven very flaky in this aspect). _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

I don't know what OBP is. I've never used a sun box before. If that's the Open Boot version it's 4.0
I tried to boot into Solaris but when I do the network setup at boot and choose dhcp I get this and then it hangs:
ifconfig: start: bad address
Change Esc-6_Help
Assertion failed: errmess != NULL, file main.c, line 338
Abort - core dumped
in.rdisc: No interfaces up
Starting IPv4 routing daemon.
starting rpc services: rpcbind done.
When I choose static I get this:
System Identification Error
An error occurred while trying to set the IP address 192.168.1.16 on the
network interface.

I've had a similar problem with illegal instructions on two Ultra Sparc IIi. But one day after blowing some dust out of them it just started working... |

Thanks. I'm not sure if that will solve it since it has been in the box probably since it was purchased but I'll give that a try and reply with the results. _________________ SeeEf

I had the same problem with my V100 which is esentially the same. I re-burnt a few CD from a newly downloaded image and it seemed to work. I used nogdm and nousb to make it boot. |

I'll give that a try too. I'm out of town for a few days and will try the fixes when I get home. Thanks _________________ SeeEf

I downloaded the image again and blew out any dust. That seems to have solved the problem.
