could anyone please tell me what is wrong? this is what I get when running mplayer with no parameters:
Quote: | MPlayer dev-SVN-rUNKNOWN-4.1.1 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ (Family: 15, Model: 75, Stepping: 2)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 3DNow 3DNowEx SSE SSE2 |
does this mean that mplayer is not compiled for amd64 architecture? if so, could it be possible that everything else is also compiled for x86? (i only set up this system yesterday and this is the first non-x86 system i have ever had.
thanks in advance. _________________ There is no knowledge that is not power. |

You can see what system you have with: You should see x86_64 if kernel is compiled for amd64.
To make sure that everything else is compiled for x86_64 you can check chost in /etc/make.conf. You should see a line: CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" for amd64 architecture. You can also check what compiler you use with: gcc-config -l. You should see a star after the compiler that is currently set on your system. |

Thank you. Well, all those things indicate that everything should be for amd64. so what about that mplayer? Or is that line "compiled for x86 CPU" not really important? _________________ There is no knowledge that is not power. |

Nope. I am quite sure I emerged mplayer. And portage confirms it.

Sorry, I was wrong in that post...It has been a long time since i booted 64 bit
But since we compile with 64bit compiler, i think we can ignore that line |

My 64 bit mplayer has the same output, but I know its x86_64. If it can't play wmv or rmvb files with video it's definitely 64 bit. |

Thank you. Then I probably have nothing to worry about.
By the way, my mplayer does play wmv, but it should, because I am using the masked ffmpeg - https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-496972.html _________________ There is no knowledge that is not power. |

That's why I put the rmvb qualifier too, I did play with the version you mentioned, but didn't find it that useful, I only use mplayer for online content, and losing many other codecs to have 64bit wmv support was a bit of a step back in my case, but I do appreciate the overall effort the mplayer devs are making. |
