PostPosted: Thu Oct 12, 2006 5:30 pm    Post subject: No flash in opera Reply with quote

Hi!

I have no flash in opera browser! When I tried to
see a video, for example from youtube, the usual
flash black rectangle with "Loading ..." appears
but it stays there for ever! If I right click on it
I can see the usual flash config box.

In all other browsers (konqueror and firefox) flash
works fine!

I already reemerged opera and netscape-flash.
No success ..

Thanks for any help.

I have exactly the same problem.

It isn't super funny to copy paste the link and open it with firefox to be able to see a video from youtube.

EDIT: I forgot to tell that it works everywhere else were flash is needed, but it won't work on youtub/vide.google.com.
Very strange.

I haven't got video playing to work anywhere.
Everything else works.

Modem leds indicate that the videos do load, but no start playing...
Maybe bad html/js markup?

I am not sure it is a opera problem. I heard from a portuguese
forum that opera works fine on Ubuntu for example.

I don't know the version however ...
I'll be back if i find it.

Just a guess, but does the path to libflashplayer.so contain netscape?

See this link
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/opera.linux/browse_thread/thread/9e9a3c21cd413c2f/3949ce2e8f96f84a#3949ce2e8f96f84a

Eirik Byrkjeflot Anonsen happens to be an Opera developer, so I assume he knows what he's talking about.

Just a guess.

[SOLVED] ;-)
You're right.
Code:
# ln -s /opt/netscape/plugins/flashplayer.xpt /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/flashplayer.xpt
# ln -s /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/libflashplayer.so
plus changing the /opt/netscape plugin path in Opera Preferences Downloads to the /opt/opera path (2 Mime types) works. In a new setup Opera takes the right path automatically, when the symlinks are made first. So only putting these 2 symlinks in the ebuild would be an (ugly) temporary fix...

Should I re-open my old bug?

But I'm glad you figured it out once again. However it's not good when this has to be puzzled out by individuals over and over again, so I'm all for finding a more permanent solution. Not that I can come up with any, personally?

What to do?

Yes, please reopen... The symlinks would be fine i.m.h.o.
Hope developers agree ;-)

I'm using Opera 9.02. I installed netscape-flash 9.0.21.55, changed all the links like described above. And for me it's working with youtube. I can watch the videos from youtube, but unfortunately not from videos.google.com.

Thanks to this thread I can now view youtube videos in opera, however I get no audio whilst doing so. I was going to try to replicate the problem in firefox but it appears that that too is broken; probably due to the fact that I'm using nspluginwrapper as I'm on amd64. In fact on firefox I can't even view videos :)

My current situation is that I have those symlinks in place and youtube vids play, but they have no audio despite being unmuted and despite amarok quite happily playing music via alsa (which I fired up _after_ I noticed the problem in opera.)

Oh I forgot to mention, this is with net-www/netscape-flash-7.0.68 and www-client/opera-9.10.

[SOLVED] to a certain extent, sticking oss in my alsa-driver USE flags worked.

I also tried flash9, which doesn't appear to work so I'm back to flash7 for now.

:? Got the same versions, but YouTube video plus sound works fine. I'm using i686...
Did you change the path in Opera Prefs (see earlier post)?

Sorry about that, I did update my post but didn't make it very clear I guess; I got sound working by supporting the oss USE flag for alsa-driver and restarting it - I suddenly got the inspiration that flash7 probably only supported oss :)

Not sure why flash9 isn't working but right now I don't care much - I can wait until it works its way into unstable :)

I use "-oss" for everything, but I use the in-kernel alsa driver with oss emulation. I think this has the same effect as compiling alsa-driver with USE "oss"...

Hello everyone,

i get this when i try to watch youtube video.

as you can see the seek bar indicates that video is getting bufferred, but it doesn't play anything. opera can play .swf files just fine and konqueror is able to play youtube videos.

about:plugins (opera)
Code:

Shockwave Flashapplication/futuresplash   spl
application/x-shockwave-flash   swf
/opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so

NS4PluginProxyapplication/x-opera-nsplugin   -
/opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/libnpp.so

Code:

# emerge -pv netscape-flash

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R   ] net-www/netscape-flash-9.0.31.0  USE="-debug" 11,163 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 11,163 kB

Thanks alot.
