ATi Fire GL 8800
I've emerged the ati-drivers and I have agpart as a module in menuconfig. However starting X isn't working. I loaded the fglrx module. My /var/log/XFree86.0.log says: Code: | ...
(EE) fglrx(0): [drm] register handle = 0xe7000000
(EE) fglrx(0): [agp] unable to acquire AGP, error "xf86_ENODEV"
(EE) fglrx(0): cannot init AGP | I have it set in my XF86Config-4 to use fglrx internal agp. I've tried external also but that didn't work either. I tried loading agpgart module, but that failed. I need help please!
Thanks in advance.

when I type dmesg it says:
Code: | Linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 439M
agpgart: unsupported bridge
agpgart: no supported devices found. |
Can someone please help me?

I found a website that said I should use the radeon driver for the ATI Fire GL 8800 instead of the fglrx driver that ati says to use. The radeon driver worked perfectly and I didn't have to load agpgart.
Thanks. _________________ "Disco Stu doesn't advertise." |

I'm using the radeon driver and direct rendering isn't loading. I have both Load "glx" and Load "dri" in my XF86Config. When X starts it says Code: | (EE) RADEON(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit faild. Disabling DRI | glxgears is going around 280 fps. glxinfo says "direct rendering: no" and has "OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect"
If I could either fix this or figure out how to get fglrx module working (doesn't work b/c agpgart won't load even though I've compiled it as a module). I just need to get dri working so I can do 3d animation rendering.

What i did to get my radeon working quite nicely :
-First emerge X11
-Emerge ati-drivers
-opengl-update ati
-fglrxconfig to generate th XF86Config-4 file
and then it worked good.
hope it helped... bye _________________ Crevetor : membre de papoo

That helped, but it was not the complete solution. I had to get the new drivers from Nvidia for the nforce2 chipset and patch the kernel to get agpgart working. So X starts fine now and I am getting 10x the fps in glxgears that I was before!
However, sound wasn't working so I re-emerged all the alsa stuff and now sound is working. I'm having problems when I do Ctrl+F1 to go to a console X restarts (and the last time I did it it stopped all together). Help please!
