I managed to b0rk my box earlier today by killing make during an alsa-driver recompile.... Ooops!
I recovered (typing this message on my Gentoo box) by using the Gentoo Live CD as a rescue disk, fsck'ing all of the partitions, and moving alsa out of /etc/module.d/ . As I type I'm unmerging the alsa-driver and will hopefully be able to successfully re-emerge it afterwards.
So my question is, is there a better Linux rescue disk out there that you would recommend? Also, what utilities in addition to fsck would you recommend a n00b like myself become familiar with (assuming the util is on the rescue disk)?
Thanks! _________________ nadams (at) ieee (dot) org |

The LiveCD is a great rescue disk. The best alternative I can think of offhand is Knoppix. |
