When I try to emerge glibc, I get
"cannot compute sizeof (long double), 77"
same with gcc.

It seems I'm not alone, but I can't find any solutions to the problem.

Thanks, but it didn't make any difference. I tried installing emul-linux-x86-baselibs and compat, but that didn't help.

Just to clarify, do you mean that when you were installing glibc and configure (via emerge) generated that error message that the system was 64 bit only?
