Sorry if this is a duplicate, I couldn't find a matching thread. (Though I suck using the search-engine here, and I can't remember how to google the forums. )
When I do emerge -uDav world the system lists alot of updates and I generally update them all atleast a couple of times every week. But lately I've noticed that alot of packages isn't included in the update.
Like today after a emerge -uDav world I emerge some other stuff and ran into problems, did a esearch virtual/mda and found that it wanted to upgrade procmail which wasnt included in the updates list earlier. And that's just one example, I've seen this behaviour alot lately.
Why is this? I thought that uDav would take care of my entire system, not only the packages that it felt like. (And no, it's not a matter of masked upgrades or such.)
Any help would be appreciated. _________________ From where the shadows turn into nightmare, netshade greets you...

A --deep update updates everything. The only known problem is, that Portage doesn't deal correctly with slotted packages. bug 4698 _________________ Please make sure that you have searched for an answer to a question after reading all the relevant docs. |

But I'm pretty sure they aren't slotted... Procmail is definately not slotted, and the other packages that I had problems with is most likely not slotted either...
Is there some way that the db's get corrupted and the system misses it when it looks for what is due for updates? I'm the first one to admit that I don't understand the inner workings of portage and such, and it's not impossible that I broke it somehow. But I don't know how that would be...
Can I rebuild the tree of installed packages somehow? _________________ From where the shadows turn into nightmare, netshade greets you... |

Yay!
That did it, don't know how it got corrupted, but now I have a bunch of updates I haven't seen in a long time, and they are not sloted.
Thanks tomk, and I'm sorry if I failed to find the solution when I searched for it.
Thank you Carlo for the attempt too! _________________ From where the shadows turn into nightmare, netshade greets you... |
