Hi all,

I usually keep my system fairly up to date by doing the following
emerge --sync
emerge --deep --update world

However I don't want to change to xorg 7 as my computer would be down for a week recompileing everything.

Is there a way to run "emerge --deep --update world" and exclude xorg7. I was thinking there must be a way of user masking packages, but I can't find it in the man pages.

Thanks

Simon

Hint: read man portage and search for "package.mask". You should mask xorg-x11 version 7 and up.

Just a headsup, xorg < 7 is no longer supported, that means security bugs and it'll be removed from portage soon.
Also since xorg 7 is modular future security updates mean just a smaller part is upgraded, not the whole monolithic beast.
