Checking emerge status over ssh?

Hello,

Lets say I ssh into my work computer and start emerging gnome (and it takes a while..). Then I go to work hoping that the compiling wont take to long, when I arive at work - is there any way for me to see how far the emerge I started over ssh at home has come in the compiling?? When do I know that the compilation is complete and how can I see errors if there are any??

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of SSH: keep login active/Login to a previously started session.
