If i have missed something and this feature already exists then please correct me.
However, ive noticed installations can get very large due to dependancies and needed libraries installing many extras which many may not need.
As an example, i have both QT 2 and 3 versions installed. both with developer binaries such as a the designer and others. Perhaps an option could be made as a USE variable to select "minimum" insatllation, so you only get the headers and shared link libraries installed ? this would save on space and be useful i think. perhaps it could be taken one step further so you could have builds where a needed library (for linking) is downloaded but after compilation the uneeded headers and developer stuff is removed?
Just a couple of ideas.. HD space is cheap you could arue, but when it comes to a laptop its still failrly expensive and upgrade routes can be tricky.
Obviously manual deletion of files is possible, and i do as such, but for others perhaps my ideas could be useful ? |

good idea but that sounds quite complicated (well, it sounds ok, but it'll be complicated to make it work with all packages I guess). |
