You have to go to the www.transgaming.com web site and buy it.
At a minimum it will cost you $5/month for three months.

You copy the files they let you download into /usr/portage/distfiles and then
Code:
emerge cedega

You may want to try WINE first. It is much better these days and runs many things as well as cedega.

The difference is Cedega supposeably handles DirectX9 better and does handle copy-protection of certain games.

Suscribe here: http://www.transgaming.com

Then 'emerge cedega' and follow the instructions.

Edit: Blah, beat me to it!

That's illegal. That doesn't belong in these forums.

Why should I pay and you give it to others?

read the licence...you can legaly distribute cedega but...if you do this at a large scale they will change the licence and you won't be able to do so

That's the license included in the ebuild, but that's not the license included in my download from transgaming.
(Different parts are under different licenses it seems.)

Edit: Directly from the license included with cedega:
Quote:
Pre-built packages of Cedega contain components licensed from third
parties, and may not be redistributed for any reason.

Please don't post stuff like this that can get the forums in trouble. If you need an explanation look here.

I'm sorry, but I didn't want to say it out loud in front of everyone. If it is illegal, then I apologize, please delete my post and the other one in the other thread.

My mistake, I'm sorry, I guess I missed that part in the license.

No offense, but generally when you have to pay for something, it rarely is allowed to freely distribute it after.
Did you read the Alladin license first, or after it was brought up?

Paying for software is not a problem for me, but I don't like the fact that Cedega does not allow a demo of sorts. I know it did, the 14 day one, but there should be one atleast once a month, so that new users can see and decide for themselves if they really want it. This is one reason that people get turned off at TG forums. They dig head first into Cedega unknowing of what their doing or just excitement and then they start getting angry when something doesn't work, etc.

I have Cedega, Wine and Crossover Office. I would suggest giving Wine a chance first.

Although the games I run are limited, they all now run with Wine now and I have no need for new versions of Cedega.

You'll have to take the demo issue up with transgaming and/or find positive usuage for your games from other owners first.

I hope Wine fits the bill for you. :)

Edit: Sorry baigsabeeh, got confused and I thought I was responding to new_to_non_X86.

If the license is wrong, maybe you should post a correction at bugs.gentoo.org

The licenses involved are detailed on the Transgaming website, here: http://www.transgaming.com/license.php?source=1. It is linked to in the Wikipedia article.

It seems to me that the ebuild LICENSE variable for app-emulation/cedega should be "Aladdin LGPL-2.1 ReWind", but the ReWind license would have to be added to /usr/portage/licenses as I couldn't find it there.

You CAN download Cedega for free -

Gentoo Cedega CVS howto

Quote:

If you wish to download Cedega for free you can use the tutorial found at this website. Keep in mind that you will be downloading from the CVS sources so you need to have a CVS client.

You won't get the GUI with it, but there is a third party one (forget the name).

EDIT: Wow! I'm, err, a Guru! When did that sneak in... 8O

FYI. The license issue was noted at bugzilla and apparently has been taken care of.

The CVS version is missing some other parts also, like safe Disc protection. Bottom line is try WINE first.
