|

Hello.
I'm currently installing a fresh installation of the gentoo system. (newest release). But when I try to run the following command "emerge sync" to retrieve the portage tree this happens:
>>> Note: /etc/make.profile isn't available; an 'emerge sync' will probably fix this.
>>> starting rsync with rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage...

receiving file list ...
29400 files...
Why does it stop on 29400 files.. and nothing further happens? But 2-3 times the "recieving file list" is done and it starts to add ebuilds to the /usr/portage folder, but after a certain amount of time it stops.
What shall I do to prevent it from stopping so I can continue my installation? |

Probably a bad router between you and the OSU mirror. Hit ctrl+C to stop the sync and try it again.

Yes. the problem might by the nic card currently installed on my server which is not 100% operational. But i'll buy a new nic card and then i think emerge will work. |

How long does it stop? Depending on the speed of your computer it can stop for quite some time (up to 15min), while it's updating various things (caches?) on your pc. _________________ Fvwm|Fvwm forum |
