I just made a new account using the command given in the gentoo guide

useradd -m -G cassieg

then set hte password using

passwd cassieg

I had already finished the installation and until now have been ( I know foolishly) using only the root account to get things working and only just added a user account for myself to use..

THe problem is whenever i go to SU or even from KDE try to change options, when i put in my root password it does not accept it.!!!!
please help!![/post]

mengsk,

You must add your user to the wheel group for su to work.

load the live CD, chroot into your install and change it. I believe that's the correct thing to do...
