Short and simple, when compileing GNOME I get this error after a few hours...
Code: |

ximagesrc.c: In function 'gst_ximagesrc_change_state'

Any recommendations?
Edit: Added a few more lines to the top of the code. |

Alright, based off the lines I added to the top I'm going to guess in the function "gst_ximagesrc_change_state" there is no "damage_event_base".
So how would I go about getting it there... as in my personal opinion it seems to be the problem. I was screwing around a lot with USE until I noticed that. Top 3 lines are new, just edited them in, so I hope that helps to further help you to help me as I've been shooting in the dark here. |

Try merging media-plugins/gst-plugins-ximagesrc then gst-plugins |

That brought up an error saying something along the lines of everything was "masked" by "~86x".

That ended in the same exact error as in the first post. So, I'm going to guess that plugin is the problem and this makes me wonder if it's nothing to do with my install but what in the world the computer is downloading and trying to install. |

To unmask gst-plugins-ximagesrc you need to add it to /etc/portage/package.keywords with a text editor or run the following command:
Code: |
echo "media-video/gst-plugins-ximagesrc ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
|
see http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_package.keywords for further info.
Now try merging gst-plugins-ximagesrc then gst-plugins. Fingers crossed this should work. |

It is still giving me the same error even after adding that line to /ect/portage/package.keywords
Code: |
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "gst-plugins-ximagesrc" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- media-plugins/gst-plugins-ximagesrc-0.10.3 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)
|
I tried different versions of the line, including the exact one it gave me, to see if it'd work but it doesn't. I read through that little Wiki... seems pretty straight forward but then again like most straight forward things as of late it doesn't seem to be working. |

Alright, well I tried installing Gnome-Light to have the same error. If I get no answer in the next 5-10 hours I'm going to be forced to try to install KDE. I much prefer GNOME, but I figure I'll just slap Fluxbox or Enlightenment IF KDE doesn't give me some error like this one. |

OK let's do it this way, to emerge gst-plugins-ximagesrc use the command
Code: |
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge gst-plugins-ximagesrc
|
This isn't the best way to do things but it should work |

I don't wish to jump the gun or anything, but it seems that worked. Both things emerged fine and now I'm continueing to emerge gnome. Hopefully it finishes with out any more errors.
Thanks a lot... |

P.S.- Yes, typing by hand is fun!
Edit:
I have decided to install Slackware Linux instead as Gentoo has been giving me more issues, ok WAY MORE, issues than it did last time I installed. I just don't have time to take 2 weeks to install Gentoo.
I wish [K] the best but I have given up on Gentoo for this system.

Noooo! Don't do that, I have allways installed gnome with no problems. Something is not working and its not our fault. We should report a bug or something. |

I have the very same problem. I have been using Gentoo w/Gnome desktop for about 1 year. I had to hosts up and running. I have a 3rd server that I wanted to use this combo on. I could not get Gnome to work. Startx gave me the same:
EE) Failed to load module "i810" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "vesa" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "vga" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "mouse" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "kbd" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available.
I installed Gentoo on a working Gentoo host with a new drive (hda) and could not configure the system to load the modules. I believe that something has changed in the ebuilds. One of these "emerge gnome" operations was blocked by a new set of libs called "seamonkey" another attempt 3 days later there was no block. What is going on here? What has changed. I am using the same notes and gentoo.org web documentation but things have changed.
Essentially, my question is: Can I manually load these drivers? How? Shold I emerge Xorg first and configure? |
