As I am still learning my way round Linux systems I am regularly playing with stuff in /etc.
Since I occasionally have to roll back to working versions of configs after killing them I have loads of backups lying around so I was wondering about using CVS to handling the backups for me.
My plan is to put the whole of /etc into CVS and after any work where I'm happy with the results commit the changes. The only problem I can see is the CVS directories that CVS creates in each directory.
Has anyone else used this approach or are there any other ways to do this in a nicer way?
Just one extra thought which I can find out on my own but beind lazy... if I do do this, some directories contain symbolic links back to themselves to allow for older versions of software. Can CVS handle this recursive loop? |
