Hello,

i need some advice how to clean my / (root) partition..

First of all my partition sheme:
hda1: /boot (128 MB)
hda2: swap ( 1 GB)
hda3: / (10 GB)
hda4: /home (70 GB)

i have some packeges installed (gnome openoffice-bin mplayer wine azureus-bin) i think the usual packages....

but now my hda3 is 95% full

Is there a chance to (or better: how to) sweep clean and rebuild all my system so it starts clean???
But i don`t want to emerge all my software manually again nor loose all my settings...

Thanx alot,
Liu

Just go to /var/tmp/portage and delete everything in there, go to /var/log and clean old samba and other messages (Once I gained 4 GB with this alone  ), go to /usr/portage/distfiles and clean it. You may want to keep them for a rebuild of your system, move them to another partition and add DISTDIR=<new_location> to your /etc/make.conf. The same is possible for /usr/portage with "man make.conf". For the Distfiles you can also add the new directory as first mirror in /etc/make.conf. That way you can find out what packages are still needed by simply doing "emerge -ef world" )
