I have just installed Gentoo, with Xorg 7.1 and KDE 3.5.3, but when I am trying to emerge nvidia-glx i got a message, that xorg-server-1.1.1 conflicts with it's older version. I have downloaded and installed driver from Nvidia website, but after KDE loads, fonts are not visible (see screenshot http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/3420/snapshot1su0.png). Please, help me to solve this problem. I am a beginner in Gentoo.

giantdragon,

Xorg 7.1 does not work with any binary drivers yet. You need to use the nv driver.
If 3D acceleration is a must, Downgrade Xorg to 7.0

i have emerged the nvidia drivers and they work perfectly on my machine, after setting renderaccel = "false" and render = "false" in xorg.conf. withouth those two settings in xorg.xonf, i had some font problems.

i simply used the --nodeps option when installing nvidia-glx.

others may say this is an offensive, stupid, convoluted manner to get around the problem, but i ran into an endless stream of problems when trying to fix it the "correct" way.

good luck.

barfo,

Thats fine - all you have done is turn off acceleration.
