you can get it at ftp.burmzali.net
it is in /pub/ and it is called gentoo-1.3b.iso
if anyone else would like to host it that would be fine.
i thought this might be useful for all those people with out broadband. if you need help with how to use, let me know.
good luck, have fun!

hey guys,
i just updated my 1.3b-full iso. i added gimp and a few other things, like my make.conf file for an athlon-xp and the latest install instructions off the gentoo site. i put my full portage dir from july 1 2002 into the stage1 tar ball. i think this should be a big help to those people trying to install gentoo on a pc without broadband. the full iso is 696 mb and you can download it from here:
ftp://ftp.burzmali.net/pub/gentoo-1.3b-full.iso
i cannot leave my server running 24/7, so if some kind soul could snag and mirror it that would be cool.
(um, i guess just clicking the link doesn't work with mozilla, and not konqueror either. sorry about that. try using the command line to dl, like with wget. ie should work fine to just click it)

I'm using galeon... 'right-click' -> 'download link' appeared to work.

I really like that idea! :D I think it would be cool to set up a script that creates this type of thing - an iso with the source for a bunch of common apps - automatically on a weekly basis or something. This would allow for people to be able to install without tying up network bandwidth. Unfortunately, I'm too busy to do this right now. :(

This is already in the planning stage here, just haven't gotten the time to get to it yet..
Gentoo 1.3c will have a full-kde iso, a full-gnome iso and maybe a best-of-both-worlds iso (and tarballs ofcourse). Just monitor gentoo-dev for it, i'll be asking some questions regarding this very soon.

btw: will there ever be a 1.3b iso or do you wait for gcc 3.1.1 anyway before making the next iso ?

Last I looked there was a 1.3b_test iso on the ftp site... I believe it's using GCC 3.1.

i use these flags for gcc3.1 and athlon-xp:
-march=athlon-xp -mmmx -msse -m3dnow -fomit-frame-pointer -O3 -pipe

they work pretty well. i have had very few problem compiling, no more then i did with 2.95.

everything on the list compiled fine.

ps- sorry if anyone trying to download it last night got cut off, the kitchen is being remodeled and i had to shut down while they played with the circuit breakers.

Well, AFAIK there was never a 1.3b ISO, only an inofficial one done by a user.
On the official site there's only a 1.3a iso

I was just going to this ftp site and so I mentioned it. I assume it's not an unofficial build done by a user, but a test build done by the team. It's also on ibiblio. Can someone verify that the 1.3b_test is an unofficial build done by a user and not a test build done by the team? How should we tell the difference?

hm, there is no iso on that ftp for 1.3b...nor is it on ibiblio...there are only the tbz2 files (which can't be bootet off the cd rom).

and yes, these are builds done by the gentoo developers (in 1.3x case mainly by Bart Verwilst)

such a weekly edition would be great. and it would also open up for more users (such sitting behind firewalls). Perhaps there could be an aditional application cd to use (with emerge -u world or so).

I was mistaken. I just saw the tbz2 files and thought they were iso's.

burzmali,
can you post how you made the cd? I would like to create my own personalized cd.

ok first thing
the image dated 7-1-2002 is no good, sorry. i fixed the problem though and have made a new cd image dated 7-8-2002 available at ftp://ftp.burzmali.net/pub/gentoo-ix86-full.iso . this one boots :)
i am testing it as an install cd tomorrow on my friends dual p3 board. i will let you know how it goes, though i think i have fixed all the problem with the old cd and expect everything to go well.

how i made it:
i made a dir called gentoo somewhere (i put it at ~/iso/gentoo). into gentoo/ i tared the stage 1 .tbz2.
Code:

#cd ~/iso/gentoo/
#tar -xvjpf <path-to-file>/stage1-ix86-1.3b-r1.tbz2

then i copied the contents of /usr/portage to ~/iso/gentoo/usr/portage.
after this i tared the contents of gentoo/ into stage1-ix86-full.tbz2
Code:

#cd ~/iso/gentoo/
#tar -cvjpf ../stage1-ix86-full.tbz2 ./

now to make a bootable cd.
i followed the directions from here:
http://syslinux.zytor.com/iso.php

i used the kernel and rescue.gz (and the rest of isolinux/ ) from the gentoo cds on www.gentoo.org . then i used xcdroast to burn it. if i am unclear on anything, let me know. good luck !

perhaps we could create a bootlable gentoo-demo cd in that manner. you know. putting it in any pc and booting with ramdisk so that you have just a working linux environment

But would it be really different, from let's say Knoppix?

If you want many people to be able to use it, you will have to do generic compiles of the packages. And than one of Gentoo's greatest features (IMHO) woul be gone: speed.

burzmali thanks SO MUCH for the information and link on how to create a bootable Linux CD. I have been looking for quite a while on the forums and on google for some such information!!! I really had no where to start from, thank you thank you thank you!!!! I can't thank you enough!! I am going to make my own CD with all the Gentoo documentation in the disk for cases that there is only one machine connected to the internet (which will be the victim of my installation) so that I can still refer to things like the portage manual and such. Good work also on the iso's with packages already available (for machines without a fast connection) very slick! Anyway just wanted you to know you really made my day and I can't thank you enough!!!!!!!

Regards,
BonezTheGoon

So does this iso have everything needed to get Gentoo running? Is there any other place to get that iso than that burzmalis' ftp ?
