How can I get cut and paste to work properly

Hi,

I would really like it if it was possible to get cut and paste to work properly in X.
As it is now copying between mozilla and konqueror doesn't work.

If I select the text "åäö" in mozilla and pastes it in kmail I get the text a*a"o". If I select åäö in kmail I get ??? in mozilla. How can I teach the programs how to understand eachothers texts?
