Waiting for stable... :/ Well, the current one is still quite useful. :) (Though I'd like to be able to use the new panel plugins. Especially the one that allow Gnome applets...)

I have perl 5.8.7-r3 installed on a gentoo toshiba laptop. What more do

For exo to build, you'l need the perl URI library.
Code:

emerge dev-perl/URI

thanks for the e-builds. I upgraded from beta1 to beta2 but had a small problem. Menu > run would not work at all (alt+f2), further investigation showed it complained about a missing library libxfce4util.so.2
so i did
Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/libxfce4util.so.4.0.0 /usr/lib/libxfce4util.so.2

and that fixed the problem.

Anyone know when Xfwm4 compositor will support fading? Right now in the Window Manager Tweaks, there are no options to tweak fading. Does anyone know where I can find the project plans for xfwm4? Thanks.

Ehm, it's not in portage? ;) Unfortunatly, Gentoo doesn't give one lots of new stuff without too much fiddeling around, so I'll wait for the stable release...

Already been asked for/suggested. The answer is probably "When somebody writes the patch and convinces Oliver that it's worth it." I wrote a patch that added something like the "Window Manager Tweaks" panel about a year ago. Attached it to a bug report and everything. Too bad nothing came of it except for my original bug being fixed in Beta2.

See the Beelzebug: http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=666

Edit: w00t. I'm an apprentice now.

anyone knows how you can get "the" menu as a button on your panel? e.g. a button that when you click on it, you have the same menu as the one that pops up when you rightclick your desktop

edit: d'oh i had a typo in my package.use (ftr xfdesktop needs panel-plugin for this, then you can do "add item" on the panel and choose "xfce menu" :))

how can you keep the title of a tab in xfce's terminal in sync with the prompt of your console? e.g. in the beginning its dieter@localhost, then i ssh to my server, so it becomes dieter@server, if i su it becomes root@server, etc. I want this to be reflected (in real time) to the title of the tab. is this possible? and how?

BUMP

I just found out that béta 2 was already released a month ago and that I'm not running it yet :P
And the developers suspect they will be able to release the first non-béta release in a few weeks.

And I also have a question: did somebody had problems running xfce4 on xorg7 ? I ask because I'm planning on reinstalling my system this weekend and I will have to make a choose between xorg6.8 and xorg7.

I just moved my two machines to xorg7 and xfce4.3.90.2 without any issues.

I am still using xfce4.2.3 but with xorg modular. I try the beta 1 but get back to 4.2.3. They seem to have fixed many issues with the beta 2, so I want to give it a try. My question is at I want to know if the beta2 use the same menu system as 4.2.3 in ~/.conf/xfce4/desktop before I try it ?

I don't see any difference in the menu handling, so probably the handle the menus the same way.
Well I'm not sure if this is already in beta2, but since some 2 weeks in svn the thunar deletes to thrash and there is a thrash can applet.
The only problem I still have is that sometimes if I click on sth in the system tray, its window is shown but not focused, earlier the problems with the focusing were much more severe, apps started from thunar and so on, didn't receive focus, but in the last week this seems to be fixed, so probably they are working on it.
Other than that I must say xfce is really good, it is my main DE for the last 6 months and I don't think I'll be changing it :)

So I was crazy enough and unmasked Xfce 4.4 beta 2 and it seems to work, except for the fact that I cannot seem to get composite to work at all. Is the some secret magical commands one must know to enable it in the latest Xfce? ;) I've made sure to compile xfwm4 with xcomposite support and also enabled it in Xorg, but I don't see nor notice any difference. :/

Please let me know if you have a possible solution or a hint.
